Riley Whittington

Grad Year: 2017

Came to Lee from: Murfreesboro, TN

Occupation: Family Nurse Practitioner

Riley Whittington came to Lee School of Nursing as a transfer, but she was no stranger to the region. She had lived in Cleveland through her teenage years and knew about Lee just from being in the area. “I wasn't considering Lee when making the decision to go to college, as they didn't have a nursing program at the time,” she said. “So I went to MTSU for a year and a half. During this time, Lee developed their BSN program and started taking applications. I thought, 'Why not?’ I applied for Lee's nursing program, was accepted, and decided to come back to Cleveland for my nursing degree.

By the time Riley had completed her bachelor’s degree in nursing, the school had launched a doctoral program, which fell right in line with her goals. She married the summer after graduation and immediately enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice. She now lives in Cleveland with her husband, Byron, and works in town as a family nurse practitioner.

Riley now sees patients on a daily basis. “Most of the patients I see are in pain and/or have gotten injured,” she says. “My goal is to bring light to them by showing compassion and love, and hopefully making their experience in the clinic a little better and easing their pain.” She is a prime example of so many light bearers emerging from Lee’s School of Nursing and answering the world’s pain with love.
