Gloria Scott-Richmond
Grad Year: 1988
Came to Lee from: Brooklyn, NY
Occupation: Lee administrator
A true force of nature, Gloria Scott-Richmond is Director of Lee’s Office of Racial and Ethnic Relations. She came to Lee as a student from New York and graduated in 1988 with a degree in Music Education. Between that and her return full time to the Lee employee family, she spent thirty years as a local music educator, meanwhile completing a Master of Music Education degree at Lee.
During the final ten years of her tenure with Cleveland City Schools, Gloria worked with Lee students as director of the popular Lee choir, the Evangelistic Singers (EVS), which continues the legacy of the Black Gospel genre “from spirituals to urban contemporary” styles.
In 2020, Gloria turned a new page in her story, returning to Lee to lead the Office of Racial and Ethnic Relations. She is the driving force behind many of the office’s initiatives, which combine toward a goal of helping Lee to listen, learn, and make Lee a better place for people of color. She meanwhile continues to conduct EVS, one of Lee’s traveling choral ensembles.
Scott-Richmond said of this transition, “What can I say about it other than to say this is the hand of God. In this whirlwind process, God had the right people at the right places in the right offices for this appointment.”
Gloria is part of the Student Development administrative team, working to shape the Lee experience for students into the future. She is bringing light here at home, helping to prepare young people to take that light into a complex world.
